Facebook forms Facebook Safety Advisory Board to keep kids safe
Facebook has teamed up with five leading internet groups in its continuing efforts to help protect kids, the social-networking site said. The announcement comes less than a week after Facebook added new privacy features, including the ability for users to select who can see each post made to the website. The new Facebook Safety Advisory Board is comprised of safety organizations from North America and Europe that will assemble regularly to review existing safety resources, develop new materials, and seek advice on general safety best practices utilized throughout the Facebook network, the company said. The first task of the board will be to oversee an overhaul of the safety content located in Facebook's Help Center. The goal of the overhaul is to create a comprehensive resource with specific educational content for parents, teachers, and teens. “We believe that the only way to keep kids safe online is for everyone who wants to protect them to work together,” Elliot Schrage, a Facebook vice president, said. The five organizations on the board are Common Sense Media, ConnectSafely, WiredSafety, Childnet International and The Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI).
